So if the USPS goes out of business this year, I guess I’ll have to change my Netflix subscription to streaming only and make ALL of my bill payments online.

The most urgent $5.5 billion that’s needed is to finance retirees’ future health care. So we’re not talking about the post office needing the dough to gas up the trucks or even pay current employees. Taxpayers are needed to pay the cost for mail that was delivered years ago.

I don’t think you can blame the internet entirely for the USPS woes. Poor money management is the major cause of this problem. Can they not foresee the cost of pensions and workers healthcare?

So what happens when you dump radioactive toxic water into the ocean? The fishes become radioactive! And how do you get people to eat radioactive fish? Set a standard that says how much radiation in fish is OK!

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano says the government will apply the maximum allowable radiation limit for vegetables to fish.

The move came after the health ministry reported that fish caught off Ibaraki prefecture — which is about halfway between the plant and Tokyo — contained levels of radioactive iodine that exceeded the new legal limit. Cesium was also found just below the limit. The fish were caught Friday, before the safety limit was announced Tuesday.

Please. No level of radio active material inside the body is safe. The TEPCO folks are saying the radiation in the water will dissipate. What they don’t tell you is that the little radioactive fish you just ate will continue to give off radiation inside your body.

Well, if you’re in South Dakota, and you’re a woman, considering an abortion, the government will certainly be involved.

Under a bill signed  by the republican governor of South Dakota today, the state will:

…require women who are seeking abortions to first attend a consultation at one of these centers, to learn what assistance is available “to help the mother keep and care for her child.” …[It also] establishes the nation’s longest waiting period — three days — after an initial visit with an abortion provider before the procedure can be done. It makes no exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

Not too crazy about this guy but this proposal makes some sense to me. I’m totally in favor of isolationism, for now. Bring everyone home, let other countries take care of themselves, let’s get our house in order, then we can go and help out where help is needed. At least at that point, we’ll get respect, people will listen to us, and not just take our money and do whatever they feel like it, giving us the run-around.

The tea party-backed Paul unveiled a budget proposal this week that would slash overall government spending by $500 billion, saying the growing debt requires nothing less. It makes significant cuts in education, energy and defense while eliminating some agencies.

The Kentucky senator also is calling for cutting billions from foreign aid, and told CNN he would end the $3 billion in foreign military assistance to Israel.

On Thursday, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) had approved the unrestricted planting of genetically modified alfalfa sold by Monsanto Co. and Forge Genetics, despite protests from organic groups and public health advocates and comments from nearly 250,000 citizens asking the department to keep this GMO genie in its bottle.

Monsanto and big business wins again! There’s no way to prevent cross-contamination, to restrict the GMO crops to a given area. It will be on our dinner plate one way or another.
